No-Typing is free, open-source software. We believe in full transparency about how your data is handled — both locally on your device and when you choose to use third-party cloud services.

1. Introduction and Core Philosophy

At No-Typing ("we", "us", or "our"), privacy is a foundational principle of our software. No-Typing is a free and open-source macOS application for speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and AI-powered text processing. This Privacy Policy explains how data is handled when you visit our website (the "Site") and use our application (the "Software").

Because No-Typing is open source, you can verify every claim in this policy by inspecting the source code yourself.

2. Local Processing and On-Device Data

No-Typing supports fully local, on-device transcription using models that run on your Mac's hardware (e.g., Apple Silicon). When using local transcription mode:

  • No Voice Transmission: Your audio is processed entirely on your device. No audio data is sent to our servers or any third party.
  • No Telemetry: The Software does not include embedded analytics, telemetry tracking, or silent crash reporters that send data without your knowledge.
  • Local Storage: Preferences, settings, transcription history, and API keys are stored locally in your application's support directory on your hard drive.

3. Third-Party Cloud Services and Remote Data Processing

No-Typing optionally integrates with third-party cloud services for enhanced functionality. These services are entirely opt-in — no data is ever sent to a third-party service without your explicit action. When you choose to enable a cloud service, the following data may be transmitted:

Speech-to-Text Services

  • Deepgram: When selected, your recorded audio is sent to Deepgram's cloud servers for transcription. Audio data is transmitted over encrypted connections. Deepgram may process and temporarily store your audio as described in their Privacy Policy.
  • Groq: When selected, your audio data is sent to Groq's cloud infrastructure for AI-powered transcription. Data handling is governed by Groq's Privacy Policy.

Text-to-Speech Services

  • ElevenLabs: When used for text-to-speech, your text content is sent to ElevenLabs' servers for audio synthesis and returned as audio. Data handling is governed by ElevenLabs' Privacy Policy.

AI Rewrite and Enhancement Services

  • OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq, and other AI providers: When you use AI-powered text rewriting, summarization, or enhancement features, your transcribed text is sent to the selected AI provider's API for processing. The text content you submit, and the AI-generated responses, are handled according to each provider's privacy policy and data usage terms.

Important: Each third-party provider has their own data retention, processing, and training policies. We strongly recommend reviewing each provider's privacy policy before enabling their service. No-Typing has no control over how third-party providers handle your data once it is transmitted to their servers.

4. API Keys and Authentication

To use third-party cloud services, you must provide your own API keys directly within the Software. These keys are:

  • Stored locally on your device only, within the application's support directory.
  • Never transmitted to No-Typing's servers or any party other than the specific third-party service they authenticate with.
  • Used exclusively to authenticate API requests made directly from your device to the third-party service.

5. Information Collected via the Website

Our website (no-typing.com) is a static informational site. We do not require user accounts, and as a free and open-source project, there are no purchase or payment flows.

  • Contact Information: If you voluntarily reach out to us via email or a contact form, we may collect your name and email address solely to respond to your inquiry.
  • No Payment Data: As a free and open-source project, we do not collect any payment or financial information.
  • Analytics: We may use minimal, privacy-respecting analytics (without cookies or personal data tracking) to understand general website traffic patterns.

6. Data Retention

Since No-Typing does not collect personal data through the Software, there is no user data for us to retain. Any data you generate (transcripts, settings, API keys) is stored locally on your device and is entirely within your control. You can delete this data at any time by removing the application and its support files. For data sent to third-party services, retention is governed by each provider's policies.

7. Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

Since No-Typing does not collect, store, or process personal data on our servers, there is minimal personal data for us to manage. If you have contacted us and wish to have your contact information deleted, please reach out and we will promptly comply. For data held by third-party services you have opted into, you should contact those providers directly to exercise your data rights under GDPR, CCPA, or other applicable law.
